The Richmond Food Justice Alliance is a resident led organization that was started in 2017 to advance healthy food access by addressing historical inequities that drive low food access in specific neighborhoods. The Alliance believes that "food justice" efforts in Richmond must address these inequities in order to be meaningful. And the impacted community must be in the forefront of these efforts to have lasting impact. The Alliance has a member training curriculum that educates residents on concepts of food systems, food policy, community organizing, and advocacy. Upon completion of training Alliance members collaborate with partner organizations to support, develop, and implement programming that improves access to healthy food in marginalized Richmond communities. The Alliance maintains a partnership with the Richmond City Health District to ensure that resident input is incorporated into food policy recommendations.
